Hello all! I am working to make the push from my 9-5 to self employment. I do have a question to throw out there. When you all snagged your first few clients, what did you do to overcome the “What companies have you done this for?” question, or “Can you show me some of your previous work?”. Did you do some free work in order to gain some traction? Any advice would be appreciated!

A few weeks ago, Scott had Josh Nelson of PlumberSEO online walking through an overview of how he identified a niche and became the authority for that niche and has built a VERY successful online marketing company through that process. Much the same as Scott did with his initial courier online marketing company.

So my question to Josh, Scott, and anyone else who have followed this path, what was made you decide on your niche. I would think that it is something more than something which happened by chance.

I’d think that there was some sort of selection process based on a number of factors, possibly including: Local Marketing for that niche hasn’t been saturated, Niche participants can afford local marketing, etc.

I thought of targeting Chiropractors but there are already some companies which have a pretty significant hold on that niche (Chiromatrix).

Just looking for some thoughts on the subject.

Thanks.
